Tern Systems participating in the ATC Maastricht 2006

18 January 2006

Please visit our stand, number 142, at the ATC Maastricht Event from 14th to 16th February. This will be our third time at Maastricht and now we will be demonstrating our 3D Tower Simulator, our Approach Simulator along with Radar and FDPS solutions for Towers.

3D Tower and Approach Simulator operational at the Icelandic Civil Aviation Administration Training Centre

05 December 2005

Today the Tern Systems' 3D Tower and Approach Simulator became operational at the ATC school in Iceland. The simulator uses Vega PRIME™ 3D simulation engine to visualize Reykjavik (BIRK) airport and necessary surroundings, and an enhanced version of the existing simulator to feed that 3D simulation engine.

The simulator provides the training environment necessary for realistic training in both tower and approach sectors. In the current setup the tower simulator has 1 controller workstation with 180° 3D view, and 1 pseudo-pilot workstation. The approach simulator has 3 pseudo-pilot positions and 3 controller positions with a simulator version of the operational Radar Data Processing System.

Since ICAA have made an agreement with NATO for training Air Traffic Controllers from Kosovo, Tern Systems engineers are now working on modelling Pristina International Airport, Kosovo, which will be ready in the beginning of next year.

Tern Systems can now provide a full suite of controller training solutions, consisting of a RDPS/FDPS simulator, supporting ADS/CPDLC messages and Communication simulator for Tower, Approach and Area Control.
This allows for highly integrated and realistic training environment, where students being trained for Tower, Approach and Area Control can participate in the same exercise, for realistic coordination and communications.

Tern Systems wins a contract in S-Korea

20 November 2005

Tern Systems Inc. has won a contract for the supply of Radar and Flight Data Processing System for the Jeju International Airport, S-Korea, following an open tender. Additionally, the system shall serve as a radar back-up system for the whole country.
Competition was strong since all major ATC solutions providers showed great interest in this project. Tern Systems won the contract in cooperation with Nousnet, a S-Korean company with great experience in installing and maintenance of large and complex systems.

Iceland likely to work with the US regarding future ATC

22 August 2005

Delegates from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and NASA are meeting with people from Tern Systems, the Icelandic Civil Aviation Administration and the University of Iceland regarding cooperation to modulate a new working environment for Air Traffic Controllers.  The University of Iceland has had very successful research cooperation with MIT, Tern Systems and the Icelandic CAA for the past years regarding testing new procedures and graphical interfaces in Air Traffic Control. All parties have shown great interest in further cooperation.

RO-FDPS operational at Shannon Aeradio, Ballygirreen, Ireland

14 July 2005

Today the Tern Systems Radio Operator FDPS became operational at the Shannon Aeradio, Ballygirreen (Shanwick Radio), Ireland. The system is similar to the operating RO-FDPS system at Iceland Radio, Gannet, and is a message handling system specially designed to provide ATS radio operators support for air-ground and ground-ground communication.

RO-FDPS provides the operators with information on planned and active flights and presents operators with messages associated with each flight. It keeps track of the frequency in use for each flight and provides a user friendly message editor for the operators.

The RO-FDPS directly supports AFTN message communication and aids radio operators in the ground-air message delivery and the creation of new AFTN messages. It processes all flight related messages, in addition to weather messages and regional messages such as the North Atlantic Track (NAT) messages.

The RO-FDPS includes a geographical view displaying flights and routes, increasing situational awareness of the Radio Operator.

The RO-FDPS also has a SELCAL encoder, a software module which manages transmission of SELCAL tones. The SELCAL encoder is also available as a standalone product.
