Tern Systems ATS Message Switch (TAMS) operational at Gannet, Iceland

14 March 2007

The Tern Systems AFTN Switch has been taken into operational use at the Gannet ATS Communication Center (Iceland Radio).
TAMS is a message handling system based on COTS hardware components and operating system with high reliability and excellent maintainability resulting from Tern Systems years of system development in the ATC world.
TAMS provides full AFTN functionality in addition to being able to deliver messages using TCP/IP, CIDIN and SMTP (Email) protocols. The message switch module is protocol independent and switches any message as long as it can be mapped to the reduced AFTN envelope. This allows for seamless integration with the AMHS protocol.
The cutover from the old AFTN switch to TAMS went well, and TAMS has been in operation for over a month now without any problems.
For more information on our TAMS product see the product site.

RO-FDPS, joint operations in Ireland and Iceland.

09 April 2006

Joint operations are now performed at the ATS Communication Centers Ballygirreen, Ireland and Gannet, Iceland. This gives the radio operators the opportunity to work flights irrespective of ATC boundaries. Depending on workload in either Ireland or Iceland, radio operators can communicate with and service aircraft in either the Icelandic or Irish airspace and send messages directly to the appropriate Area Control Center.
This means that Tern Products are in use for the north atlantic airspace all the way from 43°N, the south border of Shanwick oceanic airspace, up to the north pole where the north border of Reykjavik Oceanic Airspace is.  This means that large portions of flights going between europe and USA will enter the RO-FDPS system.IAA Airspace

FAT accepted for the Shannon Aeradio, Ballygirreen - Iceland Radio, Gannet connection

20 February 2006

FAT was performed at Gannet/Gufunes premises from February 13th to 16th. It is planned that the system will be in operation from March 29th 2006.

The ATS Communication Centers are now able to work flights irrespective of ATC boundaries. This provides more flexible and improved services for oceanic air traffic. In addition this connection provides the opportunity to balance workload through sharing of radio operators.
