Integrated 3D Tower Simulator

17 February 2005

Tern ATC Simulator (TSIM) - 3D Tower Simulator

Due to new regulations and more demanding training environment Isavia had requirements for enhanced training environment for tower controllers and AFIS operators.  Tern Systems installed a 180° 3D Tower Simulator view and connected it to the existing approach and area control simulator.  This allows Isavia to have integrated training session for area, approach and tower controllers, in a realistic environment.  3 of Iceland busiest airports, Reykjavik, Keflavik and Akureyri where modelled with all airport structures in addition to prominent building and landmarks.

Flight Inspection System

31 December 2004

Tern Systems Flight Inspection System

Tern Systems is assisting its partner NSM Special Mission from norway to install a new Flight Inspection System (FIS) into Isavias Beech King Air 200.  Tern Systems and Norwegian Special Mission AS signed a development contract to customize, supply and support a UNIFIS 3000 Navaids Flight Inspection System tailored for the Icelandic environment.  The Flight Inspection System will be a comprehensive flying laboratory covering Flight inspection of Navaids, Communication, and Radars as well as advanced environmental surveillance and monitoring of glaciers and turbulence.  Isavia has a service contract with the Naviair in Denmark to provide flight inspections for airports in Greenland and Faroe Islands.   The ICAA will use the System for calibration of its entire CNS/ATM environment including the ICAA part of the North Atlantic Tracks (NAT) bridging North America with Europe.

RO-FDPS for Gannet ATS Communication Center

15 November 2003

Tern Systems and Gannet ATS Communications are customizing the existing Flight Data Processing System (FDPS) to be used for radio operators.   RO-FDPS is a message handling system specially designed to provide ATS radio operators support for air-ground and ground-ground communication.  RO-FDPS provides the operators with information on planned and active flights and presents operators with messages associated with each flight. It keeps track of the frequency in use for each flight and provides a user friendly message editor for the operators.

The RO-FDPS directly supports AFTN message communication and aids radio operators in the ground-air message delivery and the creation of new AFTN messages. It processes all flight related messages, in addition to weather messages and regional messages such as the North Atlantic Track (NAT) messages.

The RO-FDPS includes a geographical view displaying flights and routes, increasing situational awareness of the Radio Operator.  The RO-FDPS also has a SELCAL encoder, a software module which manages transmission of SELCAL tones.

VCCS Management Position

15 December 2001

Voice Communication Control System (VCCS)

The existing Management Position (MP) Voice Communication Control System (VCCS) at Reykjavik Oceanic Area Control Center was running on an outdated operating system and hardware.  Tern Systems designed a new management position which used new technology and hardware, extending the lifetime of the existing VCCS.

FANS 1/A ADS/CPDLC Fron End Processor

02 December 2001

Tern ATC Automation System (TAS) - ADS/CPDLC

Tern Systems in cooperation with Icelandic Civil Aviation Authority (ICAA) developed a ADS/CPDLC Fans 1/A front end processor.  This processor communicates via data link messages from the available service providers and interfaces with existing Flight Data Process System.  This system enhances the current FDPS with FANS 1/A functionality.

RDPS for Keflavik Internation Airport

31 January 2001

Tern ATC System (TAS) - RDPS

Tern Systems installed a RDPS display at the Keflavik tower.  The display enhances the apporach and tower controllers surveillance capabilities. Before they only surveillance source available was an traditional single approach radar display.

RDPS Short Term Conflict Alert (STCA)

14 November 2000

Tern ATC System (TAS) - Radar Data Processing System (RDPS)

The Radar Data Processing System for Icelandic Civil Aviation Administration (ICAA) was upgraded with a Short Term Conflict Alert (STCA).  STCA is designed to give warnings to air traffic controllers when the distance between two aircrafts is below separation minimum (loss off separation).  The STCA and the warning user interface was developed in close cooperation with air traffic controllers, and has already proved useful and provides additional layer of safety to ICAA service.

Namibia FDPS

11 November 2000

Tern ATC System (TAS) - Flight Data Processing System (FDPS)

In the absence of any surveillance sources, the Namibian airspace is procedurally controlled.  Tern Systems have experience of procedural airspaces from its home environment in Iceland, and was able to provide a Flight Data Processing System (FDPS) designed for procedural airspace.

RDPS Multi Radar Tracker (MRT)

10 January 1999

Tern ATC System (TAS) - Radar Data Processing System (RDPS)

Tern Systems developed Multi Radar Tracker (MRT) based on the existing Radar Data Processing System (RDPS).  The new radar tracker changed the controller working environment dramtically, since now the controllers where able to see one uniformed picture of all available radars, instead of before where only one radar at time was selectable.
