Tern ATS Message Switch (TAMS) - Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS)

Tern Systems is delivering AFTN message switch and terminal to Pristhina International Airport (PIA) Kosovo.  The installation includes an AFTN message switch and AFTN message terminals, installation, training and support.

Pristina International Airport (PIA) is a vital component of Kosovo’s transport infrastructure and is one of the busiest airports in the Balkans, serving 1.2 million passengers and handling 14,000 aircraft operations in 2008. In recent years, PIA has sustained above-average growth rates in passenger traffic, recording an annual growth of 11.4% in 2007-2008. Although currently profitable, it is envisioned that an experienced operator will be able significantly improve overall PIA operating and profit levels.

Tern ATS Message Systems (TAMS) -Aeronautical Message Handling System AMHS Enhancement

Tern Systems’ ATS message handling system operates one of the world’s largest ATS communication center, the Gannet ATS communication center.  The messages switch is an integrated multi-protocol messages switch which supports AFTN, CIDIN and even the internet mail protocol SMTP.  Tern Systems and Gannet are now adding support for the AMHS protocol.  Tern Systems teamed up with Isode, a leading message and directory server company based on the LDAP and X.500 protocols (directory) and SMTP, IMAP, POP3, XMPP and X.400 protocols (messaging).  Isode develops high-performance messaging and directory server software used in solutions for industries where security, stability, scalability and excellent support are core requirements.

Tern ATS Message Switch (TAMS) - AFTN System

The existing AFTN infrastructure was used for a Search And Rescue (SAR) network.  As a prime contractor for the project Inster contacted Tern Systems to supply a customized AFTN solution for the BASARNAS - the Indonesia Search and Rescue agency.  The AFTN solution receives SAR messages from radio and satellites, and stores and forwards the message via the AFTN towards the BASARNAS central in Jakarta.  There are 26 remote sites with AFTN Terminal, AFTN Gateway and customized AFTN radio interfaces installed around Indonesia. In the central located in Jakarta, one redundant AFTN switch and 16 terminals are installed.

Approach Simulator at Prishtina airport

07 April 2006

Tern Systems ATC Simulator (TSIM) - Approach Radar Simulator

Tern system has installed an Approach Simulator at Pristina International Airport, Kosovo. The simulator serves a very important role in training Air Traffic Controllers in Kosovo.  The installation includes 2 controller working positions, 2 pseudo-pilot positions and 1 supervisor position.  Additionally Tern Systems communication simulator is included, enabling real life like ATC communications.

Although currently profitable, it is envisioned that an experienced operator will be able significantly improve overall PIA operating andprofit levels.

RO-FDPS for Shanwick Aeradio

07 December 2005

Tern ATC System (TAS) - Radio Operator Flight Data Processing System - FDPS

Tern Systems is installing a Flight Data Processing System (FDPS) specialized for radio operators at the Shannon Aeradio, Ballygirreen (Shanwick Radio), Ireland.  The system is similar to the operating RO-FDPS system at Iceland Radio, Gannet, and is a message handling system specially designed to provide ATS radio operators support for air-ground and ground-ground communication.  RO-FDPS provides the operators with information on planned and active flights and presents operators with messages associated with each flight. It keeps track of the frequency in use for each flight and provides a user friendly message editor for the operators.

The RO-FDPS directly supports AFTN message communication and aids radio operators in the ground-air message delivery and the creation of new AFTN messages. It processes all flight related messages, in addition to weather messages and regional messages such as the North Atlantic Track (NAT) messages.

The RO-FDPS includes a geographical view displaying flights and routes, increasing situational awareness of the Radio Operator.

The RO-FDPS also has a SELCAL encoder, a software module which manages transmission of SELCAL tones.

When this project is completed the two RO-FDPS systems in Gufunes, Iceland and Ballygirreen, Ireland will be interconnected allowing stations to cooperate to able to provide a better service for the flight operators.
